Piedmont Crossing History

History
Piedmont Crossing is owned and operated by United Church Homes and Services (UCHS), a not for profit ministry affiliated with the United Church of Christ. UCHS has a rich history and excellent reputation for quality care and services. Piedmont Crossing is one of three continuing care retirement communities operated by UCHS. All the streets and cul-de-sacs are named for individuals who were instrumental in the history and development of Piedmont Crossing

History & Timeline

History
  • 1976 - Mrs. Anise Shuler donated 49 acres of Land to United Church Homes and Services (then United Church Retirement Home). The land, in Thomasville, NC, was located in close proximity to Mrs. Shuler's home church, Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
  • 1978 - A master site plan was developed for the Continuing Care Retirement Community Campus.
  • 1982 - A Capital Campaign raised $400,000 as seed money for the Retirement Community Project.
  • 1983 - The NC Medical Care Commission approved tax exempt bond financing for the Piedmont project.
  • 1986 - Construction was completed on the first phase and a dedication services was held, September 21, 1986.
  • 1988-92 - Village expansion included Frank Circle construction.
  • 1989 - The Pavilion, residential apartments, were designed and completed.
  • 1996 - Phase II completed with additional living opportunities in the Village, Pavilion and Health Center.
  • 1998 - Ten additional acres were purchased for addition to the campus.
  • 1999 - Flick Circle cottages and villas constructed.
  • 2005 - New master site plan developed and Pierce Lane cottages and villas planned.
  • 2009 - Updated master site plan to include additional skilled nursing "households".
