The day also issues a clarion call to hasten women's equality worldwide. The first IWD gathering took place in 1911 and was supported by more than a million people. Today, IWD is a global effort that transcends the boundaries of any particular country, organization, or group. The theme for International Women's Day 2024 is 'Inspire Inclusion.'

On average, caregivers spend 13 days each month on simple tasks like shopping, housekeeping, transportation, and administering medication, and 6 days are spent feeding, dressing, grooming, bathing, and offering assistance to go to the bathroom.

    It is estimated that the caregiving workforce consists of:
    • 2.6 million home care workers
    • 647,500 aides working in residential care homes
    • 471,000 nursing assistants working in nursing homes
