Letter to Team Members from Administrator Jan Briggs
March 27, 2020
To all team members at Piedmont Crossing:
I have been a nurse for over 27 years, and I must say that in those 27 years I have not been handed a letter and told that I am an essential employee. My only thought was, “How strange – this is all that I can remember doing in my professional career – caring for patients/residents.” Then I realized that at least I have worked through the H1N1 outbreak, the SARs scare and various other threatening illnesses, but many of our staff do not remember these viral outbreaks. However, as I look around me, what I do know beyond any doubt is that even though we are living in a time that a new virus is growing throughout our state, our staff will remain strong.
Even though I understand that individuals fear the unknown, our residents will never see nor sense fear in the staff at Piedmont Crossing. Over the past month, I have had the privilege of watching our campus staff come together, support each other, fill in the gap, remind each other, “we have got this,” and work tireless hours away from their families to do what they love- caring for our residents. Each staff member, no matter what department has reached out to support each other.
While no one really knows how COVID-19 will impact our campus, our communities or our state, COVID-19 will not impact the spirit that lives on this campus. That spirit is within all of us – a strong determination that together we will overcome and in the end, we will always do what we must do to care for those individuals entrusted to our care.
Words cannot begin to express how honored I am to be a part of the Piedmont Crossing team and how proud I am of each employee that works all across our campus as I watch them join together to navigate through this ever-changing time.
Jan Briggs, NHA at Piedmont Crossing
