Bakers Compete for a Sweet Cause
August 31, 2015
Piedmont Crossing recently held their 1st Annual Cupcakes for a Cause event. Residents and staff at the retirement community raised over $700 which will be donated to Our Daily Bread Kitchen, a soup kitchen in Asheboro that was started by current Piedmont Crossing resident Dora Atlas in the early 1990's.
Numerous employees and residents baked cupcakes for the challenge. Although no admission was required to attend the event, donations were taken at the door. Over 100 guests, who also served as judges, sampled the large variety of cupcakes. Competitors made traditional cupcakes like red velvet and chocolate, but a favorite among the guests were those decorated with Forget-me-not flowers with a corresponding table decorated in purple themed items in recognition of Alzheimer's disease awareness.
Located on the East Side community of Asheboro, North Carolina, Our Daily Bread exists to provide nutritious meals to needy families and individuals with a wholesome and peaceful environment where community is represented by those served and those who serve them.
"This meaningful event was an enjoyable way to get everyone involved in a project that feeds the hungry and directly impacts people in our area," said Sherry Scott, Director of Resident Services and event organizer. "The Cupcakes for Cause event was so well received that we decided to make it an annual happening."
