October 13, 2016

Piedmont Crossing retirement community and Gary Barg, founder and editor-in-chief of Today’s Caregiver magazine and author of several caregiving books, presented Area Agency on Aging director, Blair Barton-Percival, with the Community Fearless Caregiver Award at a recent Fearless Caregiver Conference.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized today with the Fearless Caregiver Award. I appreciate Piedmont Crossing for recognizing the efforts made the agency,” said Barton-Percival, Director of the Piedmont Triad Regional Council Area Agency on Aging. “I know first-hand what it is like to be the one receiving care, and I know what it is like to be the caregiver because I have been both. I wholeheartedly understand the daily challenges that come with caring for someone. I remain passionate about the work our agency does to advocate for caregivers and connect them to services in the community. ”

Qualifications for the award included: a professional who nurtures family caregivers in the community; provides community caregivers training, counseling, support, care services and/or respite; cares for themselves as they, too, care for a loved one; and gives the gift of time to family caregivers in the community.
