Piedmont Crossing, Novant Health to Offer Diabetes Presentation

July 16, 2018

Piedmont Crossing retirement community is partnering with Novant Health to educate community members about diabetes health. The program will take place on Tuesday, July 24 at 2pm on the campus of Piedmont Crossing.

Diabetes, which is the 7th leading cause of death, is reaching epidemic levels in the United States. According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 30 million, approximately 10% of the population, of Americans have diabetes. Another alarming statistic is that about 85 million Americans have pre-diabetes, a condition in which a person’s blood sugar levels are high but have not reached the threshold for diabetes. Most individuals with pre-diabetes are likely to develop diabetes within six years.

The presentation, which will be led by nurse and diabetes educator Marcy Shipwash, will educate attendees on the importance of counting carbohydrates, reading nutrition labels, exercise, and physician follow-up.

The presentation is free and open to the public. To attend, please make a reservation with Blair White at 336-474-3605 or [email protected]
