National Physical Therapy Month- What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is a rehabilitation specialty program that works closely with individuals to help them improve their functional abilities. Treatments may include flexibility and strengthening exercises, gait training, balance activities, safety with transfers, and pain management techniques.

Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants are specialized licensed health care professionals who assess individuals and develop and execute appropriate treatment programs including:

Neurological rehabilitation
Orthopedic rehabilitation
Wheelchair mobility / management
Gait training (walking)
Bed mobility / transfers
Residential mobility (home)
Community mobility
Pain reduction / management
PT / Family Education
